You can never go wrong with a chocolate dessert, I typically make chocolate pudding cake or Nutella cookies when I’m looking for a chocolate fix. This fondue is also a great choice and it’s ready in just a few minutes. It’s also a great choice for Valentine’s Day along with a homemade heart cake.

When I need a sweet treat without a lot of prep time, I pull out my fondue pot to make this rich chocolate treat. Fondue is great for parties, movie nights, or even as a fun and decadent after school snack.

How do you make chocolate fondue?

This fondue is as simple as melting chocolate and heavy cream together with a touch of vanilla extract! It’s best to serve your fondue immediately so that it doesn’t harden up. You can use a fondue pot if you have one, or simply use a small container with a tea light candle lit underneath it to provide a little heat to keep the chocolate liquid.

Chocolate fondue variations

This is a classic dark chocolate version, but there are so many different ways to make a dessert fondue!

  • S’mores: Use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, then swirl in 1/3 cup marshmallow cream and top with crumbled graham crackers.
  • Mint: Add 1/4 teaspoon mint extract and top with chopped Andes mints.
  • Peanut Butter: Use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, then swirl in 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter.
  • White Chocolate Raspberry: Use white chocolate instead of dark chocolate, and swirl in raspberry jam.
  • Boozy Fondue: Try adding a splash of chambord or grand marnier.

What do you serve with chocolate fondue?

There are so many different dippers that you can serve with fondue. The classic choices are fresh fruit like strawberries, and cubes of pound cake. I also like to serve my fondue with pretzels, rice krispy treats, brownie bites, marshmallows, vanilla wafers and chocolate chip cookies.

How do you make chocolate fondue thicker?

This fondue will start to thicken as it cools. It will never completely harden because of the cream in the mixture. If you’d like to have thicker fondue, I recommend removing it from the heat and waiting 5-7 minutes and your chocolate will start to set up.

How do you reheat fondue?

You can reheat your fondue either in a pot on the stove over low heat, or in the microwave. If you choose to use the microwave, heat your fondue in 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted.

What’s the best chocolate for melting?

I recommend using chopped chocolate bar rather than chocolate chips for this recipe. Some brands of chocolate chips contain stabilizers to help them retain their shape, and they won’t melt smoothly. My favorite brands of chocolate are Ghirardelli and Guittard. You can find bars of these chocolates near the chocolate chips in the baking aisle.

I always keep a few chocolate bars on hand so that I can whip up some fondue at a moment’s notice! It’s a fun dessert that’s great for kids and is welcome at any special occasion.
