In my opinion, you can never have too many margarita drink recipes. I like to serve twists on the classic recipe such as a pomegranate margarita, cranberry margarita and this spicy jalapeno margarita.

Sometimes you want a drink with a sweet and savory flavor, which is where this spicy margarita comes in. It has all the flavors of the traditional version, but with slices of jalapeno!

Spicy Margarita Ingredients

To make this recipe, you will need tequila blanco (silver tequila), triple sec (such as Cointreau), agave syrup, lime juice, orange juice, sugar, salt and jalapeno pepper. You can also garnish the drink with lime slices and more jalapeno.
How Do You Make A Spicy Margarita?
Place a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Add the tequila, triple sec and jalapeno slices to the shaker. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes. This allows for the heat from the jalapeno to infuse the drink. Add the lime juice, orange juice and agave syrup. Mix together the salt and sugar on a small plate. Dip the rim of a glass in water, then place the rim onto the salt and sugar. Turn the glass upright, and add ice cubes. Shake the margarita, then strain it into the glass. Add some lime and jalapeno for garnish, then serve.

Tips For The Perfect Drink
- Agave syrup is also known as agave nectar, and can be found with other types of sugar in the baking aisle at the grocery store. It adds a touch of sweetness to the drink. If you don’t want to buy agave, you can make your own simple syrup instead.
- The longer the jalapeno sits in the liqueurs, the spicier the drink will be.
- This recipe makes one drink. You can easily scale up the recipe for a larger group by changing the number of servings in the recipe card.
- If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can shake your spicy margarita in a mason jar instead.
Quick Tip
Use freshly squeezed orange juice and lime juice for the best flavor.

This recipe is delicious as-is, but you can customize some of the flavors to suit your tastes.
- Juice: Instead of orange juice, try pineapple juice for a tropical twist on this cocktail.
- Rim: Try adding chili lime seasoning such as Tajin to the salt and sugar mix that coats the rim of the glass.
- Peppers: Instead of jalapeno, try using a serrano pepper or red fresno chile. If you want a really spicy drink, use a small amount of fresh habanero pepper.
