Sometimes you just need an over-the-top dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. When I’m craving chocolate, I go for cheesecake brownies, Nutella cookies or these amazingly delicious fried Oreo cookies.

I love going to the fair and seeing all the different deep fried foods available. My all time favorite fair snack has to be deep fried Oreos, that combination of crispy coating and creamy filling just can’t be beat. Fried Oreo cookies are actually quite easy to make at home, and are sure to impress your family and friends.

How do you make fried Oreos?

The first step is to prepare the batter for the fried Oreos. The batter is easy to make by combining pancake mix, egg, milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract in a bowl. The batter will look a lot like traditional pancake batter. This slightly sweet batter is perfect for Oreo cookies.

Dip your Oreos into the batter, then place them in hot oil to cook. Add a garnish of powdered sugar, then you’ll be ready to enjoy this sweet treat!

Tips for fried Oreo cookies

  • You can use regular or Double Stuf Oreos for this recipe, they both work great.
  • You can use this batter for other fried desserts such as fried Twinkies and fried candy bars.
  • It’s important to use a deep frying thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature of your oil. If the oil is too hot, the cookies can burn. If the oil is too cold, the batter will absorb excessive amounts of oil and become greasy.
  • The batter should be thick enough to form a nice coating around the cookies. If the batter drips right off your cookies, you can add more pancake mix, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Use a sieve to sift the powdered sugar over your fried Oreo cookies for a professional look.

How long do fried Oreos last?

Fried Oreos are best eaten within 24 hours. You can store them in a refrigerator for up to 3 days; however, they will get progressively softer as they draw in moisture. You can re-crisp the Oreos in a toaster oven or regular oven.

Fried Oreo variations

Fried Oreos have become a classic carnival treat; however, you can customize the recipe in so many different ways!

  • Cookies: Try different varieties of Oreos such as golden, peanut butter, mint or birthday cake.
  • Coatings: Roll the Oreos in granulated sugar or cinnamon sugar instead of sifting powdered sugar over the top.
  • Batter: Add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder to the batter for an extra dose of chocolate flavor.

You can have these delicious battered Oreos year round with this recipe. It’s like a little taste of the fair in the comfort of your own home!

We made these for campfire night while camping. They were a Big Hit and so easy to make. We used the deep fryer pan and basket from a portable deep fryer, on our coleman camp stove and a Thermometer to make sure the oil was the right temperature. Sprinkle some powder sugar or drizzle with chocolate syrup. The leftover batter was used to make a few pancakes the next morning, sooooo Fluffy and delicious. We used pancake mix that you only add water for this recipe, and they here Awesome. Krusteaz brand.

What kind of pancake mix should be used? Complete or the kind that requires the egg and water add in?

Could you do these in an air fryer

That wouldn’t work because the batter is a liquid and would drip off.

It will work! You simply dip your Oreos then freeze them before putting in air fryer! Good luck!
