Yum Yum Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise Look for Japanese mayo such as Kewpie if you can find it
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons water or more if needed

Instructions

  • Place all of the ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Whisk until well combined. You can add more water, 1 teaspoon at a time, if needed to reach your desired consistency.
  • Serve immediately, or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for later use.

Notes

  1. The tomato paste adds depth of flavor as well as that characteristic pink color. If you don’t have tomato paste, you can substitute ketchup instead.
  2. Yum yum sauce will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
  3. This sauce tastes best with Japanese style mayo such as Kewpie brand.
