Mushroom Steak Sauce

This mushroom steak sauce is sauteed mushrooms in a savory brown sauce enriched with butter. This mushroom sauce makes the absolute best topping for steak, and is also great served over chicken, pork and seafood.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter divided use
  • 16 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons pan drippings from cooked steak optional
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium high heat. Add the mushrooms and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook for 5-7 minutes or until mushrooms have softened and are browned. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in the flour.
  • Slowly whisk in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce and pan drippings. Bring to a simmer and cook until just thickened. Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until melted.
  • Sprinkle with parsley, then spoon the sauce over steak or your choice of protein.
