Homemade ranch dip is great, but bacon brings it to another level.  This appetizer recipe is perfect for barbecues, parties and snacking at home.  To serve this dip as part of a meal, you can serve it with chips alongside baked barbecue chicken wings or slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches.

Bacon Ranch Dip Ingredients

To make this recipe, you will need sour cream, cream cheese, ranch dip mix, bacon, cheddar cheese and green onions.

How Do You Make Bacon Ranch Dip?

Place the cream cheese in the bowl of a mixer, then beat the cream cheese until it is completely smooth. Add the sour cream, then beat until the sour cream and cream cheese are well combined. Next, add the ranch dip mix, bacon, cheddar cheese and green onions. Stir to incorporate all the ingredients. Serve the dip with a garnish of more bacon and green onions, then enjoy!

Tips For The Perfect Dip

  • This dip can be made up to one day in advance. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dip in the refrigerator. I recommend adding the garnish of bacon and green onions right before serving. It’s best to let the dip sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before you serve it.
  • Make sure your cream cheese is completely softened for the best results. You can leave your cream cheese at room temperature until it’s soft, or you can microwave it in 10 second intervals.
  • Serve your dip with fresh carrots, broccoli, celery sticks, pretzels, bell pepper, breadsticks, tortilla chips, potato chips, crackers or baguette slices.
  • To save on time, buy pre-cooked bacon or bacon bits and pre-shredded cheddar cheese.

Quick Tip

You can use a packet of powdered ranch dressing mix or ranch dip mix – they both work well in this recipe!

Flavor Variations

This recipe is delicious as-is, but you can easily change up the ingredients to suit your taste.

  • Cheese: Instead of cheddar cheese, try a different type of shredded cheese such as mozzarella, Monterey jack or parmesan.
  • Herbs: No green onions on hand? Chives are a great substitute, and this bacon ranch dip is also great with fresh dill.
  • Flavorings: Amp up the flavor by stirring in other ingredients like hot sauce, olives or add some mayo for an extra creamy texture.

You cannot go wrong with bacon cheddar ranch dip. It’s always a hit with both kids and adults!
